Community Input Sought for Update of Giles County Comprehensive Plan

The Giles County Planning Commission will be developing updating the County’s Comprehensive Plan in the coming months and wants to hear from citizens.  To help gather citizen input, the Planning Commission has developed a survey that was distributed with the October PSA billing.

The comprehensive plan is a document that identifies a range of issues and concerns that are of importance to the community.  The plan also typically documents existing conditions and trends.  The Code of Virginia notes that the purpose of the comprehensive plan is to guide coordinated development of a locality’s territory, in accordance with present and probable future needs and resources, to promote the health, safety, and welfare of residents.  State Code also requires that comprehensive plans be reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

As noted above, community survey forms were distributed with the October PSA billing.  The form is also available as a PDF on the County website at www.gilescounty.org.  The survey may be completed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GilesSurvey. Completed paper survey forms should be returned along with PSA payments to the County Treasurer’s Office (130 North Main Street, Pearisburg, VA 24134).  Completed forms may also be dropped off at the County Administration Office at 315 North Main Street in Pearisburg.  The deadline for return of surveys is November 15, 2016.

A copy of the County’s current Comprehensive Plan is available for review at the County Administration Office during regular business hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), Monday through Friday.  For more information, please contact John Ross, County Planner/Zoning Administrator, at (540) 921-2527 or jross@gilescounty.org.
