Pearisburg Festival in The Park Celebrates its 33rd Year

Giles County, VA- Up till now, for 32 years, guests have merged onto the Pearisburg Community Center front lawn and surrounding ball fields to enjoy the annual Festival in the Park. That’s not entirely true, the event started as ‘Festival Around Town’ and has since grown into what you have seen the third weekend in June for the last decade. This year, the Pearisburg Festival in the Park celebrates its 33rd year of bringing carnival rides, live entertainment, special activities, vendors, and crafters to this community in Giles County, Virginia.

For the last two years, Pearisburg has been developing their Community Market and the Music at the Market event that has happened on the third Thursday of every summer month. This year again, the Festival in the Park kicks off on Thursday, June 15th with the Community Market’s live music, dinner options, and farmers market vendors on the front lawn of the Pearisburg Community Center, although locals will respond with ‘KJ?” The old school now serves as a community gathering space, auditorium for events, and is the home of the Pearisburg Recreation Department.

Passer-bys will see the bigger, expanded carnival rides going up throughout the week, but Festival goers can enjoy them beginning on Friday, June 16th at 6pm. For Friday night only, wristbands are available for unlimited riding. Kickoff ceremonies also start at 6pm with local Girl Scout Troops leading a flag ceremony. Live entertainment begins on Friday on the main stage with Glen Shelton and rounding out the evening with a performance by the local and loved, The Crossroads Band.

A full day of Festival, people who are regular attendees just shorten the name, on Saturday begins with a live auction sponsored by the Rotary Club of Giles County. The auction is a staple on Saturday morning at the Festival for great deals and local items. The funds raised by the live auction that begins at 10:30am, go towards Rotary sponsored projects throughout the year. Immediately following the end of the auction guests at Festival will enjoy two local youth dance group performances. Grab lunch from one of the eight food vendors on the front lawn and enjoy the local talent!

In addition to the food on the front lawn, guests can browse through 20+ vendors and crafters from Giles and beyond. Vendors include long-time attendees and fresh new participants with gifts, novelties, organizations, and as always during an election year, a few political campaigns. Games and rides will be open 11am-11pm on Saturday. Visit the ticket booth to stock up and enjoy.

A new attraction to the Festival includes The Farm Experience by Rolling Hills Farm of the Newport community in Giles. Guests can enjoy limited pony rides and a petting zoo. Youth and adults can talk to farmer and learn all about their farm. Hopefully guests can enjoy seeing equipment up close and experience agriculture. Their Facebook page has a donkey, we are all secretly hoping it comes to the event too! The Farm Experience will be onsite on Saturday, June 17th.

Back on the front lawn guests can bring a chair or find a picnic table or hay bale to listen to the live musical performance from local, regional, and Nashville talent, coming to Pearisburg for this ever-growing festival. Saturday afternoon guests are again treated to the local, talented musician performing solo, David Francisco. For the evening bands, visitors can dance to Ride ‘N Shotgun a regional group from West Virginia, and a Festival repeat performer. Finish the night off with two very exciting happenings. First, you won’t want to miss Jeremy Michael and band performing their country, southern rock, alternative rock show- straight from Nashville, TN! Then the night caps off with fireworks, a personal favorite of the Festival in the Park planning committee.

What an awesome three days of community spirit, family fun, live music, and great food? The Pearisburg Festival in the Park welcomes over 2,500 people throughout the weekend and we are all happy to be in countdown mode for another great event.
