Free Marketing Workshop for Local Food Producers and Artisans on April 28

April 21-How to Grow Food Products For Sale

Local growers and producers are invited to a free workshop on growing produce for direct sales on April 21,  9 to noon, at the Giles Lifesaving and Rescue Squad Building in Pearisburg.

Speaker Allen Straw, Area Specialist in horticulture, small fruit and specialty crops will provide the latest information on new production management techniques and possibilities of marketing crops in surrounding areas. He is one of the research faculty at the Southwest Virginia Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Virginia Tech charged with making  agricultural improvements in production management of  vegetable, berry and specialty crops through applied  research.Workshop topics include: growing produce for direct sales; what’s in demand; niche markets; soil requirements for specialty produce; production methods; and, harvesting practices.
