Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative supported by New York Life

Giles County public schools have joined the efforts of The Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative (GSSI) as part of New York Life’s nationwide effort to better equip educators and other school personnel to care for grieving students. 1 in 15 children experiences the death of a parent or sibling by the time he or she is 18 years old but just 7% of classroom teachers and school personnel feel adequately prepared to help grieving students. The goal is to continue to raise awareness of this issue and share these industry-endorsed resources that will empower school communities across America to help their bereaved students cope with the loss and go on to graduate.
