Hollow and Home: A History of Self and Place

Hollow and Home: A History of Self and Place

Fred Carlisle’s book, “Hollow and Home: A History of Self and Place”, set to be released August 1,2017, explores the ways the primary places in our lives shape the individuals we become and how vibrant, supportive communities can form in unexpected places.

“Clover Hollow and Newport did far more than simply accept me,” Carlisle writes, “The people and the places showed me I’d been misreading my own life for decades, always thinking myself as a man leaving his pasts and happily moving on.”

As a young man, Carlisle lived in 10 different locations in 5 different states. It wasn’t until he moved to the mountains of Southwest Virginia, and found a home among fourth, fifth, and sixth-generation residents that Carlisle discovered the power of place and the importance of understandings one’s past. This led him on a journey to discover his hometown roots in Delaware, Ohio.

As part of the book launch, he will be speaking at various events throughout areas surrounding Clover Hollow and Delaware, Ohio.
