HELP WANTED: The Giles County Board of Supervisors is now accepting applications for a full-time and/or part-time Animal Control Officer. Primary responsibilities are to enforce all state and local laws pertaining to the welfare and control of all animals in the County of Giles, including the investigation of all animal complaints and the resolution of cases through voluntary compliance and/or legal compliance, effectively working with attorneys, law enforcement personnel, veterinarians, and others to resolve cases of animal abuse and neglect; ensuring animals are captured and transported as humanely as possible and prompt veterinary care is rendered, if appropriate. Required qualifications: Candidates must be 21 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, have a valid driver’s license and good driving record, and the ability to lift 75 pounds. Preferred qualifications: One year of animal husbandry, animal control, or related animal care experience; experience in law enforcement is desirable. Working conditions/compensation: Some evening and weekend hours are required with an on-call rotation, and the position is considered essential personnel. Salary is commensurate with experience. The Giles County Board of Supervisors will accept sealed proposals/bids for the services listed below for the fiscal years 2017-2019. Bid packets including a copy of each RFP may be picked up at the Giles County Building Department located at 315 North Main Street, Pearisburg, VA 24134 beginning May 15, 2017. The deadline for all proposals will be 2:00 pm on May 25, 2017.
All proposals/bids should be delivered in a sealed envelope and marked with the appropriate title and request for proposal number as referenced below. The bidders name, address, and phone number should also be included. Each of the following request for proposals must be bid and submitted separately. Bidders may submit a bid for any or all of the services listed or any combination thereof. The selection process shall be in accordance with the Virginia Procurement Act and the Giles County Purchasing Policy. ‘

If the requested service requires a Virginia Contractor’s License, a copy of the license must be submitted (Class B license at the minimum) with the Proposal/Bid. The County of Giles reserves the right to reject any or all proposals/bids in whole or in part, to waive any informality, and to base all conclusions, decisions, and actions in accordance with the best interests of Giles County.
