Public Service Authority

The PSA serves Giles County residents by providing solid waste collection and disposal, recycling programs and bulk water to all five towns and Giles County. It is owned and operated by the County of Giles and the towns of Narrows, Pearisburg, Pembroke, Rich Creek and Glen Lyn.

The PSA Board of Directors meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Giles County Administration Building.

The Giles County Public Service Authority (PSA) was formed in 1992. The PSA serves Giles County residents by providing solid waste collection and disposal, recycling programs and bulk water to all five towns and Giles County. It is owned and operated by the County of Giles and the towns of Narrows, Pearisburg, Pembroke, Rich Creek and Glen Lyn. It is managed by a board of directors appointed to represent each town and the county.

Wheels For Wishes is a car donation program benefiting Make-A-Wish® Greater Virginia. We are proud to offer an easy way to recycle or donate unwanted cars, trucks, motorcycles, SUVs, RVs, or even boats, by turning them into a wish for a local child.

Convenience Center

All convenience centers are now open from 7am to 7pm Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday. With daylight savings time approaching the winter hours will be 7am to 6pm. Lot attendants will not be onsite until 11am. If any issues occur during the unmanned hours residents can call the office Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Giles Administration 540-921-2525

Large items (furniture, mattresses, etc.) can be disposed of at the PSA Convenience Centers located on Route 100 in Pearisburg, on Route 460 in the Hoges Chapel area of Pembroke and Lurich Road in Narrows. The service is free to Giles County residents except for the items listed below:

  • Automobile and truck tires up to 19” – $1.50 per tire
  • Automobile and truck tires up to 19” on rims – $3.50 per tire
  • Tires over 19” – $3.00 per tire
  • Tires over 19” on rims – $6.00 per tire
  • Tractor/Off Road Tires – $25.00 per tire
  • Brush and tree debris – $1.00 per 100 pounds (Charge to contractors only)
  • Construction debris and carpet – $3.25 per 100 pounds (Charge to contractors only)
  • White Goods – No Charge
  • Pearisburg – PSA Convenience Center on Route 100
  • Pembroke – PSA Convenience Center on Route 460 Hoges Chapel
  • Newport – Winding Way Drive
  • Narrows – Lurich Road (Stockpen)
Roll-off Service

The PSA can deliver a 30 cubic yard roll-off container to your property and pick it up when you are finished. Call for rates and availability.

Holiday Schedules

New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

Trash service for weeks when there is a Holiday will be moved up by one day. (For instance: Monday’s trash will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s trash will be picked up on Wednesday, etc.)

All county water, sewer and solid waste payments should be made at the Treasurer’s Office at 130 N. Main Street, Pearisburg.

Recycling

Paper

Newsprint (dry or wet) mixed paper, glossy paper, glossy inserts, magazines, catalogs, unwanted mail, paper bags.

NO waxed, contaminated or dirty paper.

Metal Cans
Aluminum, steel (tin) and bl-metal food and beverage containers. Empty, rinse and remove paper labels. Use a magnet to identify aluminum. Crush cans.

NO paint or aerosol cans, scrap metal, foil or food residue. No household or automotive metal frames.

Glass Bottles & Jars
Clear, brown and green glass food and beverage containers.  Empty and rinse. Remove lids and rings and discard. DO NOT break glass. Separate by color.

NO ceramics, mirrors, crystal, milk glass, dishes, light bulbs, TV tubes, window and auto glass, or cookware.

Plastic Bottles
Plastic bottles with narrow necks and a #1 through #7 in the recycling symbol on the bottom.

NO medicine bottles, motor oil bottles, pesticide containers, chemical containers, or plastic bags.

Yard Trimmings
Grass clippings, leaves and brush. Small brush is accepted. Do not dispose as trash. It’s best practice to compost leaves in your yard and leave grass clippings on the lawn when you mow.

Used Oil & Antifreeze
Collect in a clean, unbreakable container with a tight-fitting lid. Five-gallon limit.

DO NOT MIX with any other liquid. Do not pour down storm drain or on the ground.

Scrap Metal
Appliances such as washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators.

DO NOT damage refrigerant tubing; do not release Freon in the air.

Tires
Car and truck tires. Fee required.
