A Message from Mountain Lake Lodge

A Message from Mountain Lake Lodge

Last week we woke to terrible news – the passing of Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss.
Mountain Lake Lodge (also known as Kellerman’s Mountain House) was richly blessed to have had our lives touched by tWitch and his lovely wife, Allison, last year when The Real Dirty Dancing, a celebrity reality dance competition, was filmed here. The filming of the mini-series took place during the month of August at the height of the summer, a welcomed surprise for resort guests as news traveled fast that the much-loved tWitch was in the house.
Here is a note left at the front desk by one of our youngest guests during his family’s stay. tWitch always made time for the kids and families at Mountain Lake Lodge.
The grace that tWitch showed our guests, hotel staff, cast and crew, and me, was never-ending, and he made being part of The Real Dirty Dancing pure magic. At the finale, I played Marjorie Houseman and had the honor of dancing with tWitch – just like in the original Dirty Dancing movie. It was a surreal moment and the perfect ending to an amazing show and extraordinary month at our resort. (The Real Dirty Dancing on Hulu – https://hulu.tv/3PF6tyX)
While mourning the tragic loss of our dear friend, Mountain Lake Lodge asks you to join in becoming a shining light to the many children and adolescents who suffer with mental health issues right here in our hometown. As many of you know, the holidays are a heightened time for those who deal with this kind of pain every day, and we do not know who in our lives may be enduring a secret struggle.
We have partnered with Carilion Clinic Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Services and started a “Go Fund Me Page” for donations to support the many initiatives critical to helping those in need. Help us reach our goal of $25,000 to support this important initiative. (Donate Here – https://bit.ly/3G9NWYw)
“The complexity of the needs of these children and adolescents has never been greater. Here is an opportunity to make a real difference,” stated Dr. Bob Trestman, chair of Carilion’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. Carilion’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division includes the largest team of board-certified child/adolescent psychiatrists in Western Virginia. Carilion works to support kids’ and teens’ mental health needs at all levels, identifying innovative ways to bridge the gap to care:
• The dedicated child/adolescent psychiatry inpatient unit provides critical care for young patients and their families in acute distress.
• In a mental health crisis, Carilion has implemented a therapeutic environment in the emergency department led by a child/adolescent psychiatry team to prevent delays in referral to outpatient care.
• The department recently announced plans to expand ambulatory mental health offerings in a renovated retail space, increasing access and destigmatizing behavioral health support.
• Experts partner with area schools to deliver care to children in underserved communities.
