COVID-19 Vaccines – Starting January 11th, 2021

On Monday January 11, the New River Health District begins to provide COVID-19 vaccines — by pre-registration and appointment only — to residents included in “Phase 1b.” The vaccines are limited to residents of Montgomery, Floyd, Giles, and Pulaski Counties, and the City of Radford.

Who is included in Phase 1b?

Phase 1b includes frontline essential workers and persons age 75 and older. Frontline essential workers are in sectors essential to the functioning of society, are at substantially higher risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2, and cannot work remotely.

Phase 1b will include persons aged 75 and older, plus the following essential workers:

Members of the Blacksburg Rescue Squad receive a Covid-19 vaccine.

  • Police, fire, and hazmat response.
  • Correctional facilities and homeless shelters.
  • Childcare/K-12 teachers and staff.
  • Food & agriculture.
  • Manufacturing.
  • Grocery store workers.
  • Public transit workers.
  • Mail carriers (USPS and private).

Many Phase 1b recipients will get their vaccine at a workplace or residential clinic. Those who are NOT affiliated with such a clinic may pre-register online here to complete the registration and provide contact information.

Family members, caregivers and others may register on behalf of other persons.

Please note: Preregistering DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN APPOINTMENT OR A VACCINATION. As vaccines are available, VDH will contact pre-registered individuals to schedule an appointment at a local health department, pharmacy or other healthcare provider.

Vaccines will be administered in Christiansburg for the entire region. If you are a Giles County resident, and do not have transportation to get to your appointment, call 540-921-2525.
