Get CODE RED Alerts to Your Phone

CodeRed Emergency Notification System has proven to be a successful tool in notifying citizens of emergency situations affecting the area in which they live such as potential flooding, power outages, unsafe emergency situations, and emergency situations at the schools.

“Code Red” is a high-speed telephone emergency notification system. The CodeRed system gives the County officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded telephone notification/information messages to targeted areas or the entire County at a rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

CodeRed system is a geographical based notification system, which means street addresses are needed to select which phone numbers will receive emergency notification calls in any given situation. The system works great with cell phones too, but we have to have the street address. People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database.

STEPS:

  1. Create a free log-in to the CodeRed database. This will allow you to change your address and phone numbers. You will know the call is from CodeRed when the number displayed on your caller ID shows CODERED 866-419-5000.
  2. Save the number in your contacts under CODERED so it will be displayed as well. When you enroll, you can elect to receive alerts also by text message and/or e-mail.

Those without Internet access may call Jon Butler at the Giles County Administration Office 540-921 2525, Monday through Friday, (8am-4pm) to give their information over the phone for enrollment. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P. O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and phone numbers to register (you can register cell phones and residential phones).

YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION REMAINS PRIVATE AND WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION! Questions regarding this system should be directed to Lt. S. K. Vaughn at 540-921-3842 or Jon Butler at 540-921-2525.

Carilion Clinic Life-Guard

When seconds count, Carilion Clinic Life-Guard, Virginia’s first air ambulance service, can be a life saver. Carilion’s emergency transport helicopter speeds response times in critical situations because it doesn’t have to follow roadways. That speed is especially critical when injuries occur in many rural areas throughout western Virginia.

Carilion Clinic Life-Guard can be valuable when:

  • Time is critical and the patient derives significant medical benefits from the speed of air transportation.
  • Advanced life support skills are necessary en route and are not readily available by ground transportation.
  • Patients are located in remote areas that are difficult to access with ground transportation.
