NARROWS, VA – The first-ever Wolf Creek Runs Wild 5K & 10K will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, bringing approximately 250 runners and walkers to Giles County for a scenic race along Wolf Creek. While participants hail from Giles County and surrounding areas, the event promises to highlight Narrows as a destination for outdoor recreation enthusiasts.

The course winds along the picturesque Wolf Creek corridor, taking runners on Old Wolf Creek Road and Highway 61 through some of the region’s most beautiful fall scenery.

Road Closures in Effect

Residents should be aware of temporary road closures on race day:

  • Highway 61 and Park Drive (approximately 8:00-11:00 am): The eastbound lane toward Narrows will be closed from the bridge by Kathleen Memorial Church to the Narrows Community Center on Park Drive. Travelers heading east should use Old Wolf Creek Road as an alternate route.
  • Old Wolf Creek Road and Monroe Street (approximately 8:00-10:30 am): The westbound lane toward Bland will be closed from Ragsdale Field to the Jarrett Lane Memorial Bridge. Travelers heading west toward Bland should use Highway 61.

Supporting Local Recreation

Thanks to generous sponsorships from area businesses, nearly all funds raised by race participants will directly support outdoor recreation improvements in Giles County, specifically at Mill Creek Nature Park in Narrows.

“Wolf Creek has been my training ground for years, and I’m excited to finally share this incredible route with runners from across the region,” said Alicia Lane, Wolf Creek Runs Wild Race Director. “Events like this remind us of the power of combining outdoor recreation with community. We’re not just hosting a race – we’re investing in the future of outdoor access in Giles County.”

“Narrows is proud to host Wolf Creek Runs Wild,” said Tom Spangler, Mayor of Narrows. “Our location along the New River and Wolf Creek makes us an ideal destination for outdoor recreation, and there’s no better time to visit than fall. We invite our residents to come out and cheer on the runners and walkers, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to experience our community.”

Community Celebration

Following the race, participants and community members are invited to an after-party at the Narrows Town Park featuring food vendors and live music. Residents are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners and walkers throughout the morning, then join the celebration.
