Open House at Mountain Lake Biological Station

Mountain Lake Biological Station (MLBS), a University of Virginia field station located in Pembroke, VA, will hold its annual Open House on Saturday, June 25 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. The Open House is a unique opportunity for local and regional residents to meet MLBS biologists, explore historic facilities and hiking trails, learn first-hand about Station research, and understand how this research advances science and benefits the natural world. This family-friendly event will include exhibits and activities by labs and classes, tours of Station grounds, guided nature hikes highlighting local flora and fauna, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, open art studios featuring the ArtLab program, and more.
MLBS is a diverse community of scientists, instructors, research interns, students, and artists from around the world who conduct research, take field-based courses, and create art. The biological station is adjoined by the Jefferson National Forest, the Mountain Lake Wilderness, and the Mountain Lake Lodge and Conservancy.

Directions: From Blacksburg, take Rte. 460 past Newport and turn right onto Rte. 700. From Pearisburg, take Rte. 460 past Pembroke and turn left onto Rte. 613. Follow either road up the mountain toward the Mountain Lake Lodge, where the roads merge. Continue through the Lodge grounds and along the west shore of the lake. The road will turn to gravel. Continue until you reach a fork in the road; take the right fork onto Salt Pond Road. At the welcome sign, take the right fork into the station.
