Seasonal colors really pop along the New River Water Trail whether you are enjoying a stone oven pizza at The Palisades after a day of hiking to breathtaking peaks, or picking apples at Doe Creek Farm, a mountaintop historic farm. If you are looking to step away and discover a space that still offers plenty of activities, Giles is happy to be your host.
What can we do?
Possibly the best part of playing in Virginia’s Mountain Playground this season is the scenic vistas you’ll discover along the Driving Tours. The tours are downloadable and free to enjoy. They’ll take you through the charming towns that make up Giles County where you will find artisan shops and boutique bakeries. You’ll also be led to culturally significant points of interest like Glen Alton Farm, that used to produce energy for part of the county until the 1980’s, and barn paintings in Plowscrew that take you back to yesteryear.
Along the drives you’ll certainly be exposed to the curves and flows of the lovely backroads and winding creeks, like Big Stony Creek while you discover these tucked away, but not really hidden, special spots.
