$17,500 investment will extend efforts to help pets and people in Giles County live their best lives

Pearisburg, VA (August 4, 2017): The Giles County Animal Shelter has been awarded a $17,500 investment from the Petco Foundation to support its lifesaving work.

“We are delighted that Petco has chosen to partner with the Giles Shelter,” said Giles County Administrator Chris McKlarney. “This funding will enable us to make much needed improvements to the cat kennels. These will lead to safer and more sanitary conditions for both our feline guests as well as our shelter workers.  It is also important to note that in these times of extremely tight county budgets, without the Petco Foundation, these important upgrades would not have been possible.”

Last February, Giles County applied for funding from the Petco Foundation, hoping to replace the deteriorating cat kennels in the Giles Animal Shelter and recently heard that this request had been approved.  In response to hearing of the award, Giles Shelter Manager Deb Lester said, “this joint venture will enable us to finally purchase the new cat cages that we have needed for some time now.”  In addition to the cat kennels, these funds will enable the Giles Shelter to purchase dog crates, providing secure transport as well as temporary shelter should emergency situations arise.
