REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
The County of Giles, Virginia is soliciting proposals for responsible person or entities to cut hay and perform mowing services on property which it leases from the Corps of Engineers adjacent to the Glen Lyn Town Park in Glen Lyn, VA..
Bidder’s will be required to do the following:
- Cut and remove all hay on a parcel partly in the Town of Glen Lyn and partly in the Western Magisterial District of Giles County located east of the Glen Lyn Park/Campground and between U. S. Route 460 and the New River. The County estimates that there is cuttable hay on approximately 21 acres of the parcel.
- Hay must be cut at least once annually between May 15th and September 15th. The successful bidder may cut hay more often within the dates referenced above.
- The successful bidder will be entitled to retain the hay cut from the property and the County contemplates that the bid will involve payment to the County by the bidder for the hay. The bidder will be required to furnish all equipment, fuel and labor necessary perform the work.
- No fertilizer, lime, herbicides or any other chemicals may be used on the property.
- The successful bidder will be responsible for any damage to the property and cleanup and removal of any pollutants or other contamination to the property which result from the bidders hay cutting operations.
The successful bidder shall provide the County with evidence of liability insurance in the amount of at least Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000.00) covering the operations to be performed and shall provide a certificate of insurance which names the County an additional insured. In addition, the successful bidder shall indemnify and hold Giles County harmless from any claims arising from the work to be done under this proposal.
The bidder shall specify the terms upon which it is willing to do the work and the amount of payment to be made to the County as compensation.
The IDA desires to enter into an agreement for a term of three years ending on September 15, 2025 but will consider a one-year term and proposers may submit a proposal for one or two or three years or any combination thereof. The agreement will commence on or about April 1, 2023.
The continuation of the agreement beyond the current year is conditioned upon the lease between the County and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers remaining in effect. The current lease expires in 2023.

It is the responsibility of the proposer to ensure that their proposal is received.

The County of Giles is soliciting proposals for a responsible person or entity to cut hay and on certain property leased by the County from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Glen Lyn, VA. The property is located east of the Glen Lyn Town Park and Campground and is bordered by the New River and U. S. Route 460 and the area on which hay can be cut consists of approximately 21 acres.
