September 16-Art on the Lawn

Dear patron of the arts,

In Virginia Living Magazine’s “BEST OF” issue, released in June, Art on the Lawn was named the BEST ART EVENT in its Southwestern Virginia region.  This is the 6th year in a row that Art on the Lawn has placed in its TOP THREE.  The success of Art on the Lawn is due in part to people like you who have supported the show through your generous donations to the event.

More artists are discovering our show and more and more people are coming to view and purchase their wonderful artwork.  Art on the Lawn has become a tradition the drew over 1000 visitors from Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee to recent shows.  Artists have already filled almost half of our available spaces for this year’s show.

This year Giles Arts Council will present its 12 annual juried fine art show, Art on the Lawn, on Saturday, September 16.  As usual the show will be held on the lawn of our beautiful, historic Courthouse in Pearisburg.  Kids Art Adventure will be presented on the lawn of the Sheriff’s Office on the Courthouse complex.  Kids from toddlers through tween will be offered the opportunity to try their hands at various, age appropriate art activities throughout the day under the guidance of talented, adult artists led by award-winning artist Meggin Hicklin.  This year’s theme is “under the Sea”.

This year we add a new dimension to Art on the Lawn by including a separate, juried show for our high school age artists.  This show will be presented on the lower level of the Courthouse Complex in front of the Timberlake This  This will add another layer of expenses to the show which is well worth the cost.

A show of this caliber does not get off the ground without some help from folks like you.  We offer over $800 in prize money each year.  Our artists and visitors are entertained with wonderful music all day which adds another $500 expense.  These musicians offer their talents at a very reduced rate for this show.  Plus there’s the cost of advertising which runs into the thousands of dollars for just minimal ads.  And the list goes on.

Artist entry fees are minimal  We cannot make the expenses incurred depending on those fees alone.  We Need Your Help!  If you’d like to make a contribution to support Art on the Lawn, please make your tax deductible check to Art on the Lawn and mail it to:  215 Wilburn Valley Rd ; Pearisburg, VA  24134.  We thank you for any contribution you’re able to make.  We hope to see you at the show.  Thank you again for supporting the arts.
