Small Town Christmas Returns To Pearisburg

Heading to a big city for the holidays can be exciting—but small towns such as Pearisburg, offer charming events, mom-and-pop stores with one-of-a-kind gifts, and family fun activities. Pearisburg celebrates the holidays with everything from a parade to breakfast with Santa and, a holiday-themed event at the historic Andrew Johnston House.

On December 2nd the Pearisburg Merchants Association, Town of Pearisburg and the Giles County Historical Society will be hosting the opening of Small Town Christmas weekend with the lighting of the star, downtown streets and the Christmas tree located on the Giles County Courthouse lawn at 5pm.

Storefronts will be decorated throughout the town.  Many local merchants will be offering holiday specials and coupons during this evening to encourage local residents to stroll through local businesses, shop and dine.

During this evening enjoy the beauty of the Andrew Johnston House in candlelight, live Christmas performances on the Johnston house front lawn and, a bonfire between 5:30-8:30pm.  For more information on these Christmas activities and more see below:

On December 2- 4th, the Andrew Johnston house on will offer “Christmas with the Johnstons.”

Enjoy the beauty of the Andrew Johnston House by candlelight

Live performances and caroling by the Giles County Community Chorus

Hot cider served over a bonfire on the front lawn

Saturday, December 3 – 2:00pm-5:00pm

Live performances by the Greenwood Recorder Quartet in the Living Room

Visit with Santa Clause in the Parlor

Sunday, December 4 – 2:00pm-5:00pm

Andrew Johnston House will be open for tours

On each date, be sure to browse the Museum and shop for the perfect historical present in the Gift Shop. Holiday treats will be served in the kitchen. As always, events on all three days are free and open to the public. Everyone welcome!

2016 Christmas Johnstons“Christmas with Local Merchants”

Santa is coming to Pearisburg to join in the fun at the kid’s breakfast, photo session and, the parade. Other activities include an Ugli Sweater contest, a local wine tasting and. a free Christmas cookie decorating class.

Friday, December 2 (see times below)

Lighting of the Community Christmas Tree on the Court House lawn, Pearisburg town star, and downtown light poles at 5pm.

View local merchant’s window decorations and business Christmas trees from 5-8pm.  Vote for your favorite display on Facebook.  Stroller’s choice will receive a prize.

Ugly Sweater Contest” at the Pearis Mercantile. This contest will run will through Sunday, December 6th. Prizes to be awarded.

31th Annual Breakfast with Santa: Enjoy breakfast from 8:00-10:30am at the Methodist Church on 1101 Valley View Drive.

12-4pm Giles Mountain Winery wine tasting in outside patio of Pearis Mercantile (weather permitting)

Sunday, December 4, 4:00-7:00pm

Annual Pearisburg Christmas Parade at 4pm. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will join the parade. Some of the parade participants will hand out or gently toss candy from floats and vehicles so kids be sure to bring a bag or basket!  Old and young alike enjoy the tradition of the Christmas Parade, from the floats, to the animals, to the bands, walkers & the fire & rescue vehicles. Note: “ENTRY IN THE PARADE IS FREE!” Also, prizes will be awarded for the top three entries. Help us to make this a wonderful parade! Questions, please call  (540) 921-2955.

Following the parade, bring the kids for FREE Pictures with Mr. Claus at the Pearisburg Community Center.

Kids are invited to join the Pearisburg Community Market Farm Table Chef in the cafeteria for a FREE kids holiday cookie decorating activity following their picture.  This activity will close at 7pm.

2016 Pearisburg Christmas“Home for the Holiday Project”

The Pearisburg Jr. Women’s Club asks for your help with their annual Home for the Holidays Project. This initiative provides bags of food for the children of Giles County who are in need of nourishment during the two-week holiday break when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. All Giles County public school children, including Head Start programs, are included as recipients of this program

Last year this project provided over 400 bags of food to the kids in our community.

How can you help? The Jr. Women’s Club asks community and business members to help two ways:

ONE: You can sponsor a child for $20.00. For this donation, they will assemble a bag on your behalf. For more information, visit to the following website: http://gileshomeforholidays.myevent.com

TWO: You can assemble your own food bag and drop it off with a PJWC member or at the Town of Pearisburg offices by December 6th, 2016. Bags must include the following items:  2 Cans of Ravioli, 2 Cans of Chicken Noodle Soup, 1 6-pack of applesauce, 2 boxes of Mac & Cheese, 1 jar of peanut butte, 1 box of cereal, 1 box of saltines, 1 box of pop-tarts and, 1 box of instant oatmeal. If you choose to assemble your own bag, please drop it off with a PJWC member or at the Town of Pearisburg offices by December 6th.

“13th Annual Giles County Biker Run”

On December 4 from 1:00pm-4:00pm, Santa will lead his merry riders to sleigh stops within Giles County allowing for his elves to collect new unwrapped toys to give to local kids.

The public is invited to ride with the bikers and/or donate a toy for a child residing in Giles County. The Giles County Christian Mission will distribute toys.
