Tourist in Your Own Backyard Month
Tourist in Your Own Backyard Month
July 2018
This month you will see information about various businesses, attractions, organizations, and events for Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard Month. The Giles County Tourism Committee created this idea and included it in the 2017-2018 marketing plan. The group recognized that there are unique and special businesses here in Giles that residents might not have heard of before. Throughout the month of July, friends and families are invited to explore your own ‘backyard’ and the treasures of Giles County.
The Office of Tourism Marketing is coordinating these efforts. Along with business spotlight blog posts, pictures and videos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and promoting community events there will also be special group hikes and the 3rd Annual Giles County Scavenger Hunt.
Community members and friends are encouraged to explore the 37 miles of the New River Water Trail, 60+ miles of the Appalachian Trail, and multiple town parks that offer opportunities to hike, bike, paddle, and be in nature. In Giles County you can find nature walks along the New River that are appropriate for all ages or challenging inclined hikes for a more adventuresome trek. There are historically significant hikes as well as world class fishing in our streams and the New River, and family fun activities like viewing art in public places or camping.
The purpose of this Tourist in Your Own Backyard effort is to continue to bring our communities together and share in the good things around us. Natural resources, community organizations, scenic beauty, and excellent businesses are here to be patronized, supported, and discovered. Pick up the newest edition of the Giles County Visitors Guide or visit gilescounty.org for up-to-date information throughout the month of July.
