A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Giles County; officials have spent the week preparing ahead of the forecasted impacts.
A warming center will be open at the Giles County Wellness Center beginning Monday at 5:30am until 10pm, the center will open Monday through Thursday next week at those hours and be open on Friday from 5:30am until 9pm. Towards the end of next week, officials will evaluate if the center will be offered next weekend or into the following week.
Giles County Emergency Officials are urging the community to prepare now by having 3 days’ worth of critical supplies on hand, checking their homes’ smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, having safe alternate sources of power and heat readily available, and checking on vulnerable family members to ensure they are prepared and safe. If you or your family member is oxygen dependent, now is the time to contact your oxygen supplier and request additional portable oxygen cylinders for support if there is a power outage.
Be sure and complete all preparations by noon tomorrow, after this time return home, refrain from making any non-essential travel through Monday. Please know that any response by Giles County first responders late Saturday, Sunday, and early Monday will likely be delayed as travel conditions are expected to be dangerous.
