The goal of Economic Development is to improve the economic, political, and social well-being of our citizens by addressing technology directly, to meet customer needs, competitiveness in the surrounding environment, greater economic performance and sustained growth.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering designated states and territories low interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses suffering substantial economic injury as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loans offer up to $2 million in assistance and can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing. These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster’s impact. The interest rate is 3.75% for small businesses without credit available elsewhere; businesses with credit available elsewhere are not eligible. The interest rate for non-profits is 2.75%. SBA offers loans with long-term repayments in order to keep payments affordable, up to a maximum of 30 years. Terms are determined on a case-by-case basis, based upon each borrower’s ability to repay. For more information please review the linked PDF. Giles County is located in the Allegheny Mountains in the southwest portion of Virginia, on the border of West Virginia. The county has a long history of industrial development that began with the westward expansion of this country when early settlers developed extensive uses for the area resources. Roanoke is 70 miles east; Richmond, the state capital, is 244 miles east; and Washington, D.C. is 300 miles northeast.
Giles County counts among it’s leaders Celanese Acetate LLC, a maker of Cellulosic man-made fibers, and is the largest employer in the County. Chemical Lime Company of Virginia, Inc. is the 2nd largest employer. GE makes the third Fortune 500 company with a presence in Giles County.
The county has several prime locations available and a healthy infrastructure to get you off to a strong start. Whether you are moving a current business or just starting out, our Economic Development staff will help you along the way.
